Miss Nampa, Sarah Downs, has been involved with a program at St. Luke's - the YEAH Program. The eight week program for children ended a few weeks ago, and in Sarah's words, "The kids did amazing!" Each week for the program students went to one hour of exercise education and then one hour of nutrition education. Sarah specifically volunteered with the nutrition education. To end the program they had a party with games, prizes, and lots of (healthy) food!
Sarah said, "The YEAH Program (Youth Engaged in Activities for Health) runs in the fall and spring in the Treasure Valley and promotes healthy activities all year long. As a volunteer, I got to help the children understand what healthy eating means, what foods to avoid and which ones to snack on, and that they should never be on a diet...they should just live healthy lives all the time!
I chose this program because my platform is Promoting Nutrition: Taking Back Our Health. Programs like these all over the state of Idaho exist, and they work wonders with children; their minds are like sponges!"
